While I was pregnant with my son, I got the urge to cut my long curly locks short. My pregnancy hormones had finally given me the gumption to actually get my hair cut rather short, which was something I had wanted to do for a long time but never followed through. I maintained that short haircut for nearly two years and I loved it. However, within the last six months, during my second pregnancy, I have decided that I want to grow my hair out again. I miss my long curly hair and the variety of hair styles I could employ that were not options with a short hair style. But growing one’s hair long is not an easy task. It takes time for hair to grow and it seems that it grows even slower when one actually wants it to grow. Within the last six months I have been tempted to just cut it short again, but so far I have resisted that urge. It has been nice to wear my hair curly again (even though my hair is still fairly short) and I finally reached the point were I could put my hair back in a pony tail without the use of bobby pins.
After six months without a haircut, my hair needed some attention; dead ends needed to be removed and layers needed to be shaped up. So I finally made an appointment to get my hair cut. Unfortunately, my stylist has moved so I went with a recommendation and was able to set up an appointment for the next day. Upon arrival, the asked the standard question, “what are we doing today.” I told her that I wanted to be able to wear my curly or straight; to keep the length but clean up the ends and add some layers and some face framing. Easy enough, she washed my hair and began to cut. It did not take long for her clean up my ends and add layers. It felt lighter but the length was maintained. The stylist spent a significant amount of time drying my hair (my hair is really thick and I rarely dry it with a blow dryer because it takes so long), but the stylist kept with it and eventually my hair was dry enough to straighten. As far as I can tell the cut looks good! I am really excited to see how it will look curly!
