This is one blog I never thought I’d be writing. I’ve been writing this blog for a little over two years. If I wrote it for 50 more years, I never thought I’d be writing about a pregnant man.
According to news reports, a man in Oregon is pregnant. What would seem to be obviously biologically impossible is made possible through modern technology. How is this even a possibility?
The man in question isn’t actually a man. He is a trans gendered male who began life as a woman. He has been married to a woman for the past ten years.
The story was originally reported in The Advocate, a well known gay publication. According to the report, the couple wants a baby, but the wife is not able to carry a baby due to a prior hysterectomy. Since her husband kept his internal female organs after his surgery, they decided that he would carry their baby.
In the Advocate article, the man claims the couple was the victim of discrimination at local infertility clinics. After being turned away by several doctors, the couple decided to turn to home insemination in their quest to conceive. The procedure appears to have been successful.
The story gets even more complicated. Today on CNN I saw an interview with the couple’s neighbor. The neighbor insists that he saw Mr. Beatie just the other day and there were no signs of a pregnant belly. The neighbor basically accused the couple of lying.
The couple insists they are expecting a baby and that Mr. Beatie is in his fifth month. According to The Advocate, the man’s doctor confirmed the pregnancy prior to the article going to print. The baby is said to be due in July in what I can only assume will be a c section delivery.
