A Question A Week: Any Budding Novelists Out There?

This is ongoing series where I ask a question a week to my readers. To see the post where this all started, check this out.

As a freelance writer, I have found that I almost always have one or two stories in the back of my mind, screaming to come out. 😉 I finished a short story (memoir-type story on my great-grandmother) a month or so ago, and submitted it to a magazine in hopes of having it published. I am waiting, not so patiently, for a response. Print work, such as magazines and newspapers, generally pay a lot more than web work, but unfortunately the wait is much, much longer, and even when a story is accepted, it can be months before you’re paid for that work. Print work is not for the impatient (I oughta quit right now then!) and not the way to go if you’re wanting to make a quick buck.

Many people start out saying that they will do online work until they get their bills paid off or to get themselves established in the writing world, and then at that point, they will switch over to print work. The gap in pay and the long turnaround times usually ends up prohibiting this jump from one to the other, and many people never make that switch.

So last “Question a Week”, I asked for links to my reader’s blogs, because I wanted to see what my readers were writing about. 🙂 This week, I want to see the work of my readers in terms of links to any print publications where the articles can be read online, or hear back from any writers out there who are trying to make the switch between online work and print work. Do you have a novel sitting in the back of your drawer, just waiting for you to take out and work on? Have you submitted any work to a publisher, whether it’s a short story or a novel, and are waiting back on answer? Is there anyone who isn’t in the writing field at all right now in any form, but who has a novel inside of them, waiting to come out? If any of this applies to you, I want you to leave your comments below or e-mail me if you prefer to remain anonymous–perhaps we can encourage and cheer on those looking to make that leap!

Don’t forget–you can respond two ways: Writing a comment below, or by dropping me a line at Hava L (at) Families dot com if you prefer to keep your input anonymous. Thanks!
