A Quieter Divorce: Chris Rock

Britney, Britney, Britney – her name has been in every headline for the past 24 hours since she filed for divorce. Britney finally decided to kick K-Fed (now Fed-Ex) to the curb. Are any of us really surprised? Even though I thought they were a terrible couple, I was still somewhat shocked by the annoucement. I dutifully read the tabloids each week and they have been running stories on Britney and Kevin breaking up since they got together. But still, it was a surprise to know the tabloids were right, at least for once.

Another celebrity divorce you may not have heard about is that of Chris Rock and his wife, Malaak Compton-Rock. The couple has been married for almost 10 years and has two daughters, Lola Simone, born in 2002 and Zahra Savannah, born in 2004.

While Chris has been busy being the “funniest man in America” according to Entertainment Weekly (and I tend to agree), Malaak has been busy with StyleWorks. StyleWorks is a non-profit, full-service salon that provides grooming services to women on welfare looking to update their look in order to enter the work force. All services are free and in 2002, “Redbook Magazine” named Malaak one of their Mothers & Shakers for her generous work.

Ironically enough, Chris is currently working on the film I Think I Love My Wife.”

Fast Chris Rock Facts:

* He spent three years on the cast of “Saturday Night Live.”

* Chris was discovered by Eddie Murphy.

* In 2003, he received a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.

* Comedy Central choose him as #5 in their Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time show.

* He hosted the 77th Annual Academy Awards.

* Chris had two movies open on the same day in the United States – The Longest Yard and Madagascar. Both went on to make over $100 million.

About Libby Pelham

I have always loved to write and Families.com gives me the opportunity to share my passion for writing with others. I work full-time as a web developer at UTHSC and most of my other time is spent with my son (born 2004). I love everything pop culture, but also enjoy writing about green living (it has opened my eyes to many things!) and health (got to worry about that as you get older!).
