A Royal Visit

The Prince has landed. Prince Charles that is… along with his wife Camilla arrived in the United States from Britain last night and spent much of today touring Philadelphia (he’s the first British royal to visit the state).

The royal couple’s tour of the city included stops at Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the National Constitution Center and the Academy of Music. At each stop throngs of fans gathered to gush over the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. I would consider myself a “royal watcher” (as a child I was enthralled by Princess Diana), but I don’t know if I would have spent hours lining Philly’s streets battling frigid temps to shake Charles’ hand.

The Prince’s trip to “The City of Brotherly Love” was meant to focus on youth development, urban renewal and environmental stewardship. Hence the royal couple’s visit to the troubled West Philadelphia area, which is in dire need of urban revitalization.

The pair will wrap up their tour of the city tomorrow then head by train to New York where the prince will be presented with an environmental award.

Royal Notes:

Charles and Camilla took a commercial flight to Philadelphia from London Friday in an effort to keep in line with the prince’s decision to forego private jets in order to help the environment.

Royal Fashion:

You can’t have a blog about the royal family without including what each wore, right?!

For all you royal fashion watchers Camilla wore a periwinkle dress and a brown tweed overcoat and a broach, along with pearls and pearl drop earrings. Prince Charles sported a navy suit with a red, blue and gold striped tie, and a dark overcoat.

The last time Charles and Camilla visited the United States was in November 2005 shortly after their wedding. Back then they paid their respects at ground zero in New York and attended a celebrity studded bash at the Museum of Modern Art before surveying damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
