A Selection of Meatless Meals

Incorporating some meatless meals into your regular menu can reduce your grocery food bill. Most of the commonly high priced items in the supermarket for the average shopper are all meat products. It gets even worse when the meat is part of a prepackaged or pre-cooked meal.

But trying to plan out a variety of meatless meals is the key to keeping the family interested and not crying out for steak. Many people envision a meatless meal to be a bunch of vegetables just sitting there on the plate. But there are so many options today for yummy and cheap meatless meals. Here is a selection of meatless meals that cost little but are big winners in flavor.

Pizza

Pizza is the ultimate kids meal. Make sure to sneak extra veggies in the sauce and as toppings or serve it with a good sized salad. If you make it from scratch, including the dough, you’ll save big.

Baked beans

Make some vegetarian baked beans in the crockpot. This is a simple and easy meal that is very filling. Serve it over rice for a nice combination that helps your body absorb all of the protein. Then serve the leftover beans as a side dish later in the week.

Soy stir fry

Stir fry dishes are so easy to put together. Get some slightly firm tofu and use your skillet or wok to grill it up. Then add a sauce (or make one in the wok), some rice and some veggies for a great meal.

Kabobs

Who says that kabobs have to have meat in them? Try a combination of savory vegetables and sweet fruits, such as pineapple. Cook them on the grill, and you’ll have a meal that is both inexpensive and fun to eat.

Frittata

With a frittata, you use eggs, which although some people consider as a meat is actually much cheaper. Take your eggs, beat them and then add in cheese and whatever leftover vegetables and pasta that you have on hand. Bake it in the oven, and you will not only have a cheap meatless meal, but the opportunity to use up some leftovers that might have otherwise gone to waste!
