I have never been shy about sharing my struggles with food. I have an established workout routine, which I do fall away from every once-in-a-while but for the most part, I remain consistent.
What gets me every time, however, is food. There are just too many things that I enjoy eating, despite the fact they aren’t good for me. So what happens is either I sabotage my efforts or I stay the same (the exercise only keeps me from gaining weight but it doesn’t result in weight loss).
So lately I have been on a mission to change this. I’m tired of this struggle. I know what to do, so I don’t need another teaching, book or class on how to lose weight and be fitter. You eat less, eat healthier, cut out sugar and fat, and so on.
We all know these things. That’s not the problem. The real problem is that despite what we know, we don’t know how to make it happen.
How do you make yourself choose a carrot stick over a donut? Or a turkey sandwich over a slice of pizza? Knowing the right thing to do and doing it are two entirely different things.
Well here’s a revelation…you start by making available those things you should eat and get rid of the things you shouldn’t. Stop purchasing the unhealthy food items, sticking them in your pantry and then attempting to work up the willpower to stay away. Don’t have them their in the first place. And believe me, I am preaching to myself here.
I went grocery shopping at the beginning of this week with a new line of thinking. Walk right past the nutty bars, skip the bakery, and don’t even think about looking at the selection of ice cream. If I don’t purchase the stuff, it won’t be a temptation. Simple concept, I realize. But how many of us actually do it?
What I did on this shopping trip was purchase healthier items. Now they are available and I can more easily reach for them than something that is going to put on weight. I’m sure this isn’t an earth shattering idea for you…but let me ask you, have you actually done it?
My challenge to you is to stop purchasing the junk food and make only healthy choices available to you. See what a difference this makes.
