A Tale of Two Spring Breaks

Are you a beach bum or ski bunny?

During spring break, families are given the opportunity to choose between hitting the slopes or heading to the sand and surf. If you enjoy both options and need help settling on just one, consider the following:

SWIM

One of the most popular beach options for spring breakers is Lake Havasu in sunny Arizona. The area features miles of breathtaking waterfront views thanks to the lake, which is actually a Colorado River reservoir. Lake Havasu is approximately 45 miles long and is surrounded by stunning cliff walls. Since it is a protected area, it is a prime spot for boats and other personal water crafts. The area is also home to the Sonoran Desert, the Mohave Mountains, and the Chemehuevi Mountains.

A trip to Lake Havasu is your ticket to non-stop boating, fishing, swimming, water skiing, jet skiing, kayaking, and more. Other activities include mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, and ATV riding tours. In addition, the area has plenty of affordable accommodations, from condos to campgrounds. Another option is to rent a house boat that you can park right on the lake for easy access to family fun.

SKI

Colorado is home to some of the planet’s best skiing opportunities. Steamboat Springs is especially popular with spring breakers looking to shred down slopes covered with powder soft snow. Located in northwest Colorado in the Routt National Forest of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Steamboat Springs typically receives more than 335 inches of snow during the winter season, which helps to cover all six peaks and 143 trails that are spread out over 2,900 acres.

If you are traveling with kids, or beginner skiers, the resort town offers a bevy of programs to get them pumped up about the sport. Steamboat Ski School is one of the most popular. Recognized as one of the finest ski instruction institutes in the world, the school employs more than 400 trained instructors who keep up with the latest skiing and teaching techniques.

In addition to the world-famous slopes, the town is also prized for its hot springs and amazing accommodations. You can rent a condo or townhouse for longer stays or choose a traditional hotel if you plan on a shorter weekend getaway.
