New Year is a time for resolutions. Many are made but not so many are kept. So what is the point of resolutions? Resolutions are helpful if they focus our attention on areas that need to be changed. For example, last night, New year’s Eve here in Australia Mick and I resolved to get back into the habit of our regular bible study and prayer time together. When family is here or other things are happening, sadly it is all too easy for it to get pushed aside. So we’re looking at a study that focuses on different passages to do with Spiritual gifts. It should be quite exciting what we will learn.
My other resolution is, separate to my prayer and quiet time journal, to keep a gratitude journal. Last year my son gave me journal .On the front is says ‘Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His mercy endures forever.’ 1 Chronicles 16:34.
Having just come back this morning from a walk and then a swim at one of the beaches, we realize how much we have to be thankful for.
Huskisson beach in the photo is ten minutes away from our home. We still wake up each morning amazed that we live here in this amazingly beautiful part of the world. I pray we never lose the thankfulness and gratitude to God for this.
Maybe you might decide to keep a gratitude journal. The thing I have found is that the more we thank God for the blessing he has given us the more we find to be thankful and grateful for.
To give you some idea, the first few entries in today’s gratitude journal are:
I praise and thank God for:
the place where we live.
A new year
His amazing Love
My darling husband, family and friends
Getting back to writing a children’s story yesterday
Emailing two poems off for a competition (yesterday was the last day for entries)
Blue skies and sunshine
Fresh tomatoes and other vegetables from our garden
That the poems arrived safely
For quiet times to write
Sky blue plumbago flowering outside my study window
The blue tongue lizard at home in our back yard yesterday and that the dogs did not get hold of it.
Of course there are many more things I could add. But hopefully this will give you some ideas. The things we are thankful and grateful for might be big things or little things. But they are all provided by God. So let’s this year resolve to give him the gratitude He deserves for all He has given us.
