A to Z Educational and Fun Summer Activities: U to Z

This article will finish my A to Z series of fun and educational summer activities. I hope that you have enjoyed this series and find the activities helpful. I wish everyone a safe, fun, and educational summer!

U = Uncover! Take the children outdoors and uncover small rocks in the yard or creek. Hunt for roly-poly bugs, crawl fish, lizards and more. Make sure that your children do not uncover large rocks that snakes may be hiding under.

V = Vines! Take your child to pick blackberries or strawberries. Discuss how the berries grow and the various types of berries that we eat. After gathering the berries, wash them, and make a special treat with your child. Be certain to wear lots of sunscreen and insect repellent!

W = Write! Help our child write a letter to a family member or classmate. Help your child address the envelope and take the letter to the post office.

X = X (examine)! Examine a seed as it grows. Beans work great. If you do not have a garden, soak a bean in water overnight to soften the seed coat. Place the bean on a wet paper towel inside of a Ziploc bag. Before long, the seed will sprout. The bag will allow easy sight access without having to handle the bean.

Y = Yoga! Take a Yoga class or buy a Yoga video for your family. Set aside a time for Yoga at least once a week. Yoga is good for relaxation and body control.

Z = Zoo! Visit a zoo. Introduce your child to wild animals and their behaviors. When you get home, have your child write a story about the animals that he or she saw at the zoo.
