A Unique and Memorable Wedding Gift

null
Some people come up with great ideas for weddings. This is one of them, which was planned and put together at least six months before the wedding by the mother of the bride.

As soon as she knew the wedding date, the mother of the bride contacted all members of the family and asked them for their favorite recipe. The plan was each person would have an A4 page on which they were encouraged to print their favorite recipe, whether it was for main meal, dessert, cakes etc.

After each person had printed out the recipe they were asked to include a photo of the dish or decorate the page in some way to make the recipe book as attractive as possible. The only conditions were that everything had to fit on one A4 page. I’m not sure whether she insisted everyone keep the idea a secret from the bride or not. I would. That could be another condition of you were thinking of using the idea The mother of the bride gave each person a date for the completion of the project.

When the recipes came in she sorted the recipes all into their appropriate sections and then had them collated and bound into book with a laminated cover. The recipe book was given to the bride on the wedding day. She was overwhelmed. Everyone present saw how much this unique gift meant to her.

Not only by the sharing of special recipes but the trouble each person went to with their page. The book reflected the interests and personalities of each family member in the way the recipe was presented. How special would it be to have all the family’s recipes collected into one book and have a book of memories? For example the recipe might be labeled Aunt Martha’s cheese cake or Uncle Tom’s chili con carne.
Each time you cooked a certain meal it would be a reminder of that person. What better way to remember them?

A friend told me about this unique idea recently. I wish I’d known about it before our daughter married. I know how precious the recipes handed down from my mother are. How much better would it be as a wedding gift with special recipes from all members of the family? It could become a treasured heirloom as well as a practical wedding gift.
