This Mother’s day has to rank as one of the best so far in my book. It started on Saturday when my husband told me I could do whatever I wanted, and he would just go with the flow. I spent the day shopping by myself which is something I never get to do!
Sunday was a beautiful day too. This year, my husband helped my kids make a beautiful card for me about all the things that are impressive about me.
Some of my favorites were:
I make the best mac and cheese and cake. (Courtesy of my 3 year old)
I give the best hugs.
I make my kids laugh better than anyone else.
I read stories better than anyone else.
All things that are important. Right? My husband also wrote me a long list of things that he admires about me too. I told him that it was all I needed for mother’s day. Although the flowers didn’t hurt.
Church was beautiful too. The talks were written with mothers in mind, and two of the senior mothers in our ward spoke, which I especially loved. It was nice to hear the perspective of a mother/grandmother/great grandmother. One of those women shared funny stories of when her kids were little (like the ages mine are now). It was fun to hear.
One story included that of her three year old son that was hit by a car and hospitalized for a week. Wanting to use it as a teaching moment for not running out into the street in the future, she sat him down after he was recovering, and asked him what he learned. He simply replied, “I didn’t run fast enough!”.
Motherhood is a beautiful thing, but it is also a lot of work! I love that, in our church, the importance of a good mother is never overlooked. Motherhood is a calling, and one of the most important ones. I feel grateful that God chose to bless me with such an important responsibility.
