A few years ago, none of us even knew what an Acai berry was. Today, they’re everywhere. Let’s take a closer look into this little fruit and see if it’s everything it’s cracked up to be.
The Acai berry (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) is found in the Amazon Rainforest. It’s about the size of a marble, but is purple in color. About 90% of the fruit is actually a pit and only 10% is the edible fruit. It can’t be eaten until the pit and the pulp are separated from each other.
What makes the Acai berry so unusual is the high levels of antioxidants it contains. You’ll also find Omega fatty acids, amino acids, fiber, and iron among its nutritional merits, along with many other vitamins and minerals. Those who partake of the berry regularly say that it contains many healing and wellness powers, including anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and provides a great deal of energy.
But how does all this affect weight loss?
According to Dr. Perricone, an expert in the field of weight loss who has studied the fruit, Acai berries help promote a balanced homeostasis in the body, which leads to the individual’s weight leveling out to what it should be. He also believes that because the Acai berry contains cyanidin, which is a highly antioxidant phytochemical compound, the berry helps to reduce fat absorption and “draining body fat.”
Other sources say it cleanses and detoxifies the body, improves digestive function, burn body fat more quickly, and process food more efficiently.
Yet other sources tout the benefits of Acai in fighting disease, promoting overall health, and increasing the body’s absorption of nutrients.
As with any nutrient, how do you know if it’s right for you?
First, I recommend getting on the Internet and reading everything you can about it. Then, if you feel you should, give it a try. Only you will know if it’s doing something for you. Keep in mind, too, that what works for one, may not work for another. Our bodies are all different.
You can buy Acai berry products through multi-level companies such as Xocai and Monavie, or at your local store as found in such products as Tropicana Pure Acai juice. You’ll find a complete listing of Acai sources as you scroll through the search engines online.
As a side note, I did take Xocai chocolate with Acai berry for a time, and I did find that I had more energy. However, I didn’t find huge weight loss benefits from it and it was rather expensive. However, I do know of others for whom it has been very helpful. Again, our bodies are all different.
