Add Some Halloween Flavor to Your Genealogy

pensacola lighthouse Genealogy is the study of your family. A great way to understand more about your ancestors is to learn more about the history of the places that they lived. October and November are excellent months to add some Halloween flavor to your genealogy research.

On October 19, and October 20, 2012, the Pensacola Lighthouse, which is located in Pensacola, Florida, will hold Haunted Lighthouse Tours. They will take place from 6:00 at night until 9:00 at night. Reservations are required. Admission will cost adults $5.00 and children $3.00. The tour is not recommended for young children. The Pensacola Lighthouse has been called one of the most haunted lighthouses in America. Visit the historic 1896 Keeper’s Quarters and see “if the ghosts are willing to meet you”.

On October 20, 2012, the Boone County Public Library, which is located in Burlington, Kentucky, will be hosting two haunted historical tours. They are partnering with the city of Walton, Kentucky, for the Haunted Gaines Tavern ghost walk. Tickets cost $5.00. The tour lasts for about an hour. Learn about the Gaines Tavern and the history that goes with it.

On October 26, and October 27, 2012, the Vancouver Heritage Ambassadors, who are located in Vancouver, Washington, will hold the 10th annual candle light walk through the historic Old City Cemetery. Walks will start every 15 minutes from 5:30 in the evening through 7:15 at night. Walks take about 45 minutes to complete. The cost is $5.00 per person. Vancouver Heritage Ambassadors will be dressed in period costume and accessories and offer tour guests living-history talks about the early pioneers.

On October 31, 2012, there will be a tour of the Old Mission Cemetery, which is located in San Luis Obispo, California. It will begin at 4:00 in the afternoon. It is a “non-scary” tour that focuses on the lives of San Luis Obispo’s history makers, including Capt. William G. Dana, Ah Louis, and his son, Howard.

On November 1, 2012, the LaPointe-Krebs House, which is located in Pascagoula, Mississippi, will hold the 7th Annual Krebs Cemetery Tour. It will take place on All Saints Day from 5:30 in the afternoon until 8:00 at night. The tour takes about 45 minutes, is free, and is wheelchair accessible. Donations are accepted. A cast of actors will portray several of the pioneer settlers that are buried in Krebs Cemetery, so that guests can learn about them.
