Adding Seasonal Touches to Scrapbooks

left

One step inside of a scrapbook supply shop during the month of December and you may be buried under an avalanche of Christmas-themed paper and embellishments. From Santa Claus and snowman stickers to candy cane stamps and angel-shaped die cuts, when it comes to finding ways to add holiday cheer to your seasonal scrapbook, you don’t have to look very hard to find merry materials.

I am a huge fan of seasonal scrapbook stickers, rub-ons, and other page decorations; however, I also enjoy adding a little something extra to my Christmas layouts. One of the many types of filler I use when crafting a holiday-themed scrapbook is the journaling block. This reserved space on a large layout is ideal for adding holiday poems.

To some, including a poem about the season may sound overdone. However, if you exercise some creativity, you can easily transform inspirational or funny lines into a real masterpiece to showcase in your scrapbook. For example, rather than merely copying a favorite Christmas poem onto your page design in straight lines, consider forming the words to look like a candy cane, snowman or star. If you don’t mind moving your memory book as you write, you could also design a wreath out of the lines featured in your favorite holiday poem.

Another option for beginner scrapbookers is to pen an acrostic poem. This type of prose is done by spelling the word out vertically, and then using each letter in the word or phrase as the first letter of each line of the poem. For instance, if you selected the word “Christmas,” your acrostic poem may look like this:

Candles in the window on a silent night

Happiness abounds during this time of year

Reunited family members share hugs and kisses

Icicles add shine to the city

Snowmen make adults feel like kids again

Trees decorated with dazzling lights are a real sight to see

Merry children wait for Santa

Angels are a gift from God

So much to be thankful for
