Adjusting Your Health and Fitness Plan

notepad

Lately I have been writing about my mid-year goals and the changes I have been making. Since my last blog my schedule has changed and I am going to make some adjustments.

For my healthy eating goals I am still going to keep up my current plan of three fruits and three veggies a day. To do this I am going to buy my veggies once or twice a week. Then I will put them in those small reusable containers in the fridge already to go to take to work.

For fruit I am going to have some bananas, melon, and apples filling up my fruit basket. I will also keep some berries in the fridge for dessert. Bananas and apples are an easy grab and go kind of fruit. Melons you can cut up the night before and put in a sealed container to take with you to work or school.

My working out routine is going to have to change. I’m working full-time and going to be away from the house ten hours a day. In past blogs I’ve suggested exercising on your lunch break or before or after work. During my lunch break will be hard, however after work will be my best option.

To help get exercise after work I have come up with a couple ideas. I plan to recruit a workout buddy to go walking, hiking or biking with me once a week when we both get home from work. Using the trails or neighborhood parks near my house will help remove the barrier of having to travel farther than needed.

Another plan is to get in more exercise Friday through Sunday. Before my schedule was lighter and I got in a lot of exercise Monday through Friday. Now I am going to have to do more on the weekend to make up for the doing less during the week.

It seems to me that life is constantly changing and finding a working routine can be a challenge. This can be especially more difficult when you start a new job or have a new addition to your family.

Some tips for when you need to adjust:

Instead of throwing out your current plan altogether, try adjusting it to fit your schedule (such as one less workout).

Keep a routine workout with a friend or spouse to help ensure that some working out is happening!

Plan ahead your meals and snacks when you do have the time so you can make shopping lists that will be filled with healthier choices.

What are some things you do to help when adjustments are needed?
