Adoption with a Twist

A friend of mine volunteers at a pregnancy crisis center. She often talks about another woman, who wants to adopt a child, who works at the center as well. When she started, she was afraid the expectant mothers would see her as a “vulture,” trying to swoop in and take their babies. She didn’t think they would trust her advice.

Most of the moms-to-be can see how much she cares about them. She helps them gather supplies and things they will need for themselves and their babies. She is a pro-life woman of faith, and she encourages each mom to acquire prenatal care and especially to have an ultrasound.

It is much more difficult to go through with an abortion once a mom has seen her baby, watched the baby move, and heard his or her heartbeat. Most of the younger moms keep their babies after ultrasound. Doing this may not bring the hopeful woman any closer to her goal of adopting, but it does help prevent abortions, and she’s happy about that.

The last I heard, she was considering adopting not only a baby, but also the baby’s teenage mom. This could prove to be a win-win situation for all involved. I think it is a beautiful act of selfless love toward a scared young girl who no one else seems to love, and her new baby. The girl can keep her child, and the older woman will get to be an adoptive mom and a grandma all at once. She certainly seems to have enough love to fill both positions.

This situation really touched my heart. I think this is a wonderful outcome, where both of these women can now help each other learn to be good mothers, and the baby will have the best of both worlds.
