Earlier this year I wrapped up my look at the travel offerings of Adventures by Disney, the Mouse House’s vacation planning and tour organization. Now for 2012 AbD has added several new trip options to their list, most new tours of previously visited sites and one venturing to a new realm for the first time.
The completely new destination now offered by AbD is Greece. The majority of the Greek trip focuses on the ancient country’s rich history: take a guided tour of the Pananthinaiko Olympic Stadium in Athens and hear stories while exploring the Acropolis. Travel to the oracle at Delphi on the Island of the Temple of Apollo. Walk through a volcano, kayak the Aegean Sea off the island of Crete, explore a Cretan shepherd village, and of course, consume local food and wine along the way.
While much of the Greece trip involves sailing the archipelago around the Aegean Sea, the other new “G” trip offered by AbD is an actual cruise: nine days around the Galapagos Islands. The AbD Ecuador tour stops at the islands, but now they have their own trip to themselves.
As expected, this tour focuses on the wonders of nature found throughout the seven islands. Explore lava fields, groves, caves, and lagoons, and see the native giant tortoises, sea lions, marine iguanas, and more. The tour will also explain the history of the islands and the discoveries made there by Charles Darwin.
Another new AbD trip hits both one previously toured country and one brand new island: Australia and Tasmania. Visit the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary to view local Tasmanian Devils, wallabies, koalas, and more. Zip line over a eucalyptus forest, kayak, and hike over the Wineglass Bay Overlook. AbD’s also added a few new elements to their previously established Australia trip, like private surfing lessons and a tour of the Sydney Opera House.
The previous Egypt tour was so popular that AbD’s revamping it for 2012. This time the trip will be guided in part by an Egyptologist, offering an even greater exploration of the country’s history. Guests will get to take part in a bit of that themselves, learning to write their names in hieroglyphs and cooking Egyptian meals.
The two final additions explore more of England and France than before. France gets the double treatment, with its own new trip and a dual one shared with England. The Esprit de France tour travels all over the country; visit Paris, the countryside, the beach, and various chateaus. It kicks off with a dinner just outside Versailles and ends with a private meal inside the Louvre. Along the way you’ll also see da Vinci’s last residence and the island of Mont Saint Michel.
The Cities of Knights and Lights tour of England and France has been expanded to include more of the English countryside. In addition to its previous stops guests also now get to see inside Windsor Castle and Stonehenge, and do more in London at Harrod’s and the London Eye.
These tours are new so more details are still coming. To learn more about them, including pricing and dates, visit the Adventures by Disney website or call 800-543-0865.
