Although there are many picture books for your children to enjoy, I wanted to encourage you to consider Aesop’s Fables. Keep in mind that these fables date back to the 6th century but have been enjoyed by children around the world ever since. Now, Aesop’s Fables are available in many different books but two in particular are what I consider the best.
For one thing, each of these picture books has incredible illustrations and the stories are excellent. In addition, the three I will mention are suitable for children of all ages so young or old will enjoy them. Best of all, these Aesop’s fables have real morals to them, teaching something of importance. Typically, children will be prompted to ask questions. This is good, allowing you to open up a communication line on important subjects.
The first book is a favorite, “The Tortoise and the Hare”. However, the other one, while not as well known, is still an excellent fable – “The Children and the Frogs”. What you will find is that Aesop’s Fables have been compiled and written by various people, each with a unique take on the storyline. For instance, one published in 1990 was written y Bernard Higton and Russell Ash. This collection is unique in that the characters and colors have been interpreted for the 19th and 20th centuries.
Another illustrator with more than 75 books to his credit is a man named Jerry Pinkney. He too designed and illustrated Aesop’s Fables, using a variety of art forms such as colored pencils, pencil, and even watercolors. This collection is also interesting in that the characters portrayed are of different ethnic and racial groups. Everything in these fables comes alive with unique expression, movement, and color, making this one of the favorite choices for Aesop’s Fables.
Finally, Aesop’s Fables were also captured by Fulvio Testa who was born in Italy. His books are so well known that they have been translated into 13 languages, as well as published in more than 15 countries. The illustrations in these fables have a Middle Eastern and European slant, featuring 20 fables that are all beautifully illustrated with a bordered painting.
