Affordable Accommodations in Exotic Locations

How do you spend your travel dollars? Do you pay big bucks flying off to exotic destinations and compensate by staying in budget hotels? Or do you try to find the cheapest means of travel and loosen your budget purse strings to pay for ultra-luxe accommodations?

If you play your cards right in the days leading up to the busy summer travel season you could save on both. A number of airlines are offering great travel deals to exotic locations while hoteliers are aiding budget conscious jetsetters by providing package deals. Take a look:

INDONESIA

Bali’s Desa Seni opened less than two years ago but it has already attracted a loyal following. The resort consists of 10 guesthouses with air-conditioning and antique teak furniture. For $150 you’ll receive a night in a guesthouse, breakfast, and a fruit basket. You can also participate in free yoga classes near the hotel’s saltwater pool.

MEXICO

For just $120 per night you can stay at Azúcar in sunny Veracruz, Mexico. The property features 20 white bungalows each with air-conditioning and TV in addition to a private terrace with a hammock. The resort also boasts a pool, an open-air library, lined with shelves of architecture, art, and design books, and access to a private beach.

La Zebra Beach Cantina y Cabañas is located just six miles from the Mayan ruins of Tulúm. Its rooms come equipped with handmade furniture and Wi-Fi. For $100 per night you get accommodations, breakfast and a bottle of local tequila.

PERU

Hostal Casa de Campo offers some of the most affordable accommodations in all of Peru. For just $55 you will receive a night in a chalet-like cottage, connected by terraces, stone steps, and gardens, on the slopes of San Blas with spectacular views of Cuzco. Some rooms come with a fireplace or a kitchenette, but all include free breakfast.

PORTUGAL

The rooms at Casa da Moura feature sconces, tiles, fabrics, and carved wooden furniture imported from Morocco and run just $82 per night, and that includes breakfast. The building, which was constructed in 1892 for a wealthy Lagos family, has a pool and a rooftop terrace that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.
