Affordable… but small.
In a previous blog I told you about the new option tired travelers have at some of the world’s busiest airports—-Pod Hotels.
This week a brand of pod hotels called Yotels opened in Terminal 4 at London’s Heathrow Airport. The company, which launched its first property in London’s Gatwick Airport this summer, charges about $50 for four hours in a standard single “cabin” and $115 for an overnight stay. Yotel also offers a double cabin for families, which costs about $80 for four hours and $170 for a night.
If you are looking for budget accommodations these capsule-like hotels may just fit the bill. Typical rooms are 75 to 100 square feet and feature iPod docking stations and free wireless, wall-mounted, flat-screen TVs and adjustable mood lighting. But, the Yotel is not the only budget conscious lodging on the block.
Hotel SO offers compact rooms that are eco-friendly. The hotel opened last month in Christchurch, New Zealand. Each tiny room includes free Internet phone calls. The rooms will run you about $53 a night.
In Britain, easyHotel also offers low cost lodging. The orange-hued hotels (which makes them easy to spot) are also located in Switzerland, and Hungary. Rates range from $25 to $50.
If you are trying to save money in Amsterdam consider staying at Qbic. The hotel features extra-long beds, Philippe Starck bathroom design and vending machines with homemade food from local caterers. Rooms go for about $60 a night.
Nitenite Cityhotels located in Birmingham, England feature ergonomically designed, yacht-style rooms in neutral colors. They are small, but so are the rates–$82 a night for a double.
In Malaysia, Tune Hotels offer tiny rooms that start at about $3 a night, though towels and air conditioning are extra.
Finally, in Amsterdam’s CitizenM (short for “mobile”) is set to open early in 2008. Rates will start from about $101 a night for a room with mood lighting and a king-size bed.
