After Christmas Weigh In

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Walking toward the scale was like walking the plank.  Good advice went unheard.  Good judgment left at home.  Good intentions were never given a second thought.  The Christmas festivities caused better judgement to take a holiday.  The dessert table was the siren call that caused far too many calories to be consumed.  The scale would reveal the extent of the transgressions.  Wait, shoes must be removed.  Let’s not forget the socks.  Perhaps it would be only to it to subtract a pound for hair.  Teeth.  Teeth have to weigh something and yet do not add to the waistline.  One foot on and the scale begins to head toward that fateful number.  Both feet on yet eyes are closed.  Dare to open one eye but it will take both to believe the number shown.

Even with a disturbing number on the scale hope is not lost.  Hope persists as hope always does.  It is not as easy to lose weight as it is to gain, which is hardly fair, yet it can be done.  We can reshape our bodies and outlook as long as don’t spend too much time in a state of self pity.  When we feel the pangs of failure we tend to retreat and not move forward.  Feelings of failing are your worst enemy.  So you gained a few pounds.  So you ate one more piece of Aunt Millie’s pecan pie than you should have.  So you decided the full fat egg nog was okay to drink all night long.  We all make mistakes.  We are not our mistakes.  A true test of our character is how we handle our mistakes.  So how will you handle it?  Retreat?  Get back on track?

Give yourself a break. Do not spend one more minute thinking about that scale. Take a deep breath and let’s get back on track!
