Frugal shoppers know that the best time of year to buy holiday supplies is after the holiday is over. Many people love to stock up on Christmas decorations and save the items until the next year. Have you taken notice of the great clearance sales that are going on right now? Perhaps my favorite time of year to buy holiday clearance is after Independence Day.
Now that the Fourth of July is over, many stores have patriotic items on clearance. The reason that I love Fourth of July clearance is that most patriotic items can be used year-round. These clearance items are great buys because it is never a bad time of year to support your country. Check out these types of items at many different types of stores:
Clothing: You may not want dress yourself or your kids in Halloween-themed clothing during other times of the year, but Fourth of July clothing can be worn any time. In addition, many stores that sell patriotic clothing for the Fourth of July include in the collection some solid-colored items like shorts or skirts that aren’t patriotic at all.
Paper Goods: Last year I got some great deals on patriotic paper goods: plates, napkins, and cups. I didn’t even wait until the next year to use these items, and nobody thought that it was silly to have flag plates when it was not Independence Day.
Flags: Now is the time to buy your family a flag! If you get one, don’t forget to purchase a flag pole or wall-mounting hardware, since these will likely be on clearance as well. There are several holidays throughout the year where you can put your new flag to good use.
If you aren’t interested in being really patriotic during other times of the year, don’t rule out Independence Day clearance sales. If you look, you may find items that are not obviously patriotic. For example, some pieces to dinnerware sets might simply be made in a solid color to match the rest of the theme. These items can be used for even more purposes.
