Isn’t it great to be able to open up the doors and windows and let the fresh air into your home? I love it. Not only can we save energy and money by not running the heat or air conditioning, but we get the added benefit of removing stuffiness and the dry air so often associated with running temperature control units.
You might find that certain times of day are more optimum for opening up the house. If your home stays cool during the morning, you might wait until the afternoon to open windows or turn on fans that draw air in if it’s quite warm outdoors.
For some, high humidity or high pollen may be at issue, so it pays to check the weather report before opening things up, especially if you’ll be leaving the house. You don’t want to come back and find that the fresh air cost you by way of sinus or allergy trouble.
It’s also a great time of year to hang clothes outdoors instead of using the dryer. They smell so good! While they don’t get as soft, and you may want to toss them in the dryer for a few minutes for softness and to help with wrinkle removal, you can still save a lot of energy by not using a full drying cycle.
Sitting outside in the yard or on the porch, deck, or patio and breathing in the fresh air is also a great way to relax. Even if you can only kick back for a few minutes, there is something soothing about being outdoors. You might even try dining outside, just because, and enjoy a more relaxed meal.
With all this fresh air and outdoor time, we find we have fewer readers throughout the milder months. Enjoy the weather and the fresh air while you can, but we hope you’ll still check in from time to time. 🙂
