Yesterday, it was 129 degrees in Las Vegas. Yeah, I know that the official temperature was “only” 113, but that was at the airport. My brother lives in Vegas, and all the hotels on the strip had a consistent 129. Meanwhile, I’m sitting here in the Northwest complaining because it hit 85 yesterday. The 60s are the best, the 70s are tolerable. When I was in college, I remember having a professor who kept the room cold because he said the brain functioned most optimally at 63 degrees. I can’t find any scientific evidence, but I know my own brain seems to be much clearer when it’s colder.
I can’t imagine living in a place where triple digits are the norm. I don’t think I’d ever go outside, just stay inside and soak up the air conditioning. If you are in a heat spell like a lot of us, you might be interested in Circuit City’s deal. Through TOMORROW, the LG 10,000 BTU air conditioner is on sale for $239 shipped. That’s an okay price, especially since once it got to 80 degrees here, every hardware store in the area sold out of air conditioners. If you buy today or tomorrow, there’s a rebate of $75, bringing the price down to $164 – that’s delivered to you. 10,000 BTUs will cool about 300 s.f.
If you need a larger area cooled, you can bump up to the LG 15,000 BTU cooler for $299.99 after rebate. It will cool 700 s.f. In practice, a 15,000 BTU air conditioner will really cool every room that the door’s left open to. Obviously, closer rooms will be cooler than those further away. If you can afford to lay out the extra $135, you might be better served with the larger model.
Either way, the rebate ends tomorrow. Check your local weather, and get out the credit card before it melts.
