Recently at church our minister started off by telling of a Sunday school teacher who decided to try a different approach to open her lesson. She gave some clues and asked the class to guess the answer. Her first clue was, ‘I am grey and furry.’
The class looked at her blankly No-one raised their hand.
‘I have a large black nose.’ Still no answer.
Puzzled the teacher scratched kept adding clues.
‘I live in gum trees.’ No child answered.
‘I eat eucalyptus leaves.’
Finally one child tentatively put up her hand and said, ‘I know the answer should be Jesus but it sure sounds like a koala.’
You see, Sunday school children have learned an important truth – that it’s all about Jesus. They have come to expect the answer to a question usually to be ‘Jesus,’ ‘God’ or ‘the Bible.’ They have learned He needs to be at the centre of our lives and at the centre of all we do.
The message that Jesus needs to be at the centre of our lives is the theme of a campaign being run. Quite simply its theme is, ‘Jesus. All about life.’ This advertising campaign is aimed at challenging people in our world with the message of who Jesus is, why He came and the difference He can make in a person’s life. For without Him we cannot have life in the fullest sense of the word.
Especially as we’re getting to this Christmas time of year it is important we let the world and our community know this message, ‘Jesus. All about life.’
To date, 600 churches in several states of Australia have picked up on this campaign which is now moving to other states. The campaign provides literature, a DVD that explains the Christian faith and other useful resource material churches can use. But like any campaign, the key to success is the prayer, involvement and support of individuals in churches across the country, across denominations and hopefully across our world.
I always like the slogan of our church which is ‘Jesus gives life.’ That’s a truth the world needs to hear. Will you get involved in reaching out to your community to tell them about Jesus? It’s the only way they can have the abundant life the bible promises, John 10:10.
