In previous posts I detailed cruises specifically designed for bloggers, country music fans, knitters, chess players, foodies, and Trekkies. Now, the masterminds behind specialty cruises have designed a cruise exclusively for fans of one of the world’s most popular entertainers—Elvis.
Carnival Cruise Lines has teamed up with a reputable charter music cruise operator to offer “The Elvis Cruise.” Unlike other Elvis-themed cruises, this one is touted as the “first authentic, fully licensed specialty cruise that celebrates the music and life of the legendary Elvis Presley.” Lending authenticity to the one-of-a-kind voyage is Jerry Schilling, a longtime friend and confidant of the late Elvis Presley, and author of the book, “Me and a Guy Named Elvis.” According to cruise officials, Schilling will lead many of the Elvis related activities during the time spent at sea.
Along with the Schilling run seminars, passengers will be treated to live shows from artists who performed with Elvis and have been recognized for continuing his legacy, including the Jordanaires, the Imperials, the Dempseys, Ronnie McDowell, Terry Mike Jeffrey & Band, Ruby Wilson and others. Other Elvis themed events include an Elvis tribute contest (open to all passengers) that includes a $10,000 prize. In addition, there will be autograph and Q&A sessions with musicians, an Elvis Cruise T-shirt Party, Elvis-themed bingo and more.
If you are a die-hard Elvis fan this is your chance to mingle with others who share your love for the King. This specific cruise is touting itself as the “Elvis Cruise” because its itinerary designed to celebrate all phases of Elvis’ musical life and career including his various performances in Memphis, Hawaii and Vegas, his dedication to Gospel and his gold hits.
The four-day cruise is scheduled to depart from Jacksonville, Florida on August 30, 2007, and include stops in Freeport and Nassau, The Bahamas.
