When it comes to exercise, is more of it better? You may sometimes question whether or not the recommended 30 minutes a day of exercise is beneficial.
I know a few people who don’t believe this because they don’t feel satisfied unless they have gotten in 45 to 60 minutes of exercise. For some reason, the 30 minutes can feel like it’s not enough.
Well, a small study says differently. Whether you exercise for 30 or 60 minutes a day, you end up losing the same amount of weight.
I think it’s the mindset that if you work out more, you will lose more. But apparently that may not be the case.
Of course, at the same time you have to consider how you are spending the 30 minutes of exercise. It’s important to include vigorous physical activity so that you are burning more calories.
Exercising 30 minutes every single day might seem impossible. If you can shoot for at least five days of it, you are still doing well. And even the other two days, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be performing formal exercises.
Just keeping active by taking walks, using the stairs instead of the elevator, parking your car far away from your destination and actions such as this can go a long way. There are so many ways we are active and don’t really think about it.
In fact, the weekends tend to be the time we do a lot of the chores inside and outside the house. Raking, pulling weeds, shoveling, sweeping, gardening, vacuuming, laundry and other tasks require effort. If you can spend less time watching television or surfing the internet, anything that requires movement will be helpful.
You can also break up your 30 minutes into two 15 minute increments, which tends to work for me. Maybe try 15 minutes of floor exercises, 15 minutes of walking, or 15 minutes of weight lifting and 15 minutes of cardio.
All you need is 30 minutes a day.
