Alli: Don’t Waste Your Money

Everybody is looking for the magic pill but Alli just isn’t it. Sure, the packaging is nice, they include a handy pillbox and they wrote a book to go along with it to add to the appearance of legitimacy but the fact of the matter is that Alli is just another way for pharmaceutical companies to soak the overweight for their hard earned money.

Alli costs about $40 for a 60-capsule starter pack, $60 for a 90-capsule starter pack and $70 for a 120-capsule refill pack. And what do you get for your money? At best, nothing. At worst, you’ll have explosive diarrhea, horrendous gas and oily discharge. (Can you say skid marks?)

Alli won’t keep you from getting hungry and it won’t give you the extra energy you may feel you need while on a low calorie diet. What Alli will do is punish you for eating high fat foods. What Alli does is it blocks the intestine’s ability to absorb about a quarter of the fat from the food you eat. (You can do the same thing by cutting your fat intake by 25%. What you can’t do, but Alli can, is give you explosive diarrhea for eating too much fat. Is that really worth $40 a month to you?)

If you take Alli, you’re instructed to eat no more than 15 grams of fat per meal. If you were to commit the ultimate diet sin and eat a Big Mac, which has 29 grams of fat in it, be prepared to embarrass yourself in the rest room at McDonald’s because you’ll end up blowing your drawers off with the aforementioned diarrhea.

Another down side to using Alli, as if we need another, is that if you have a meal with healthy fats in it, like fish, you’ll be blocking 25 percent of those much needed Omegas.

People are making a big fuss over Alli being the first federally approved, over-the-counter weight-loss drug but it seems like much ado about nothing if you ask me. In my mind it might as well be a pill form of bulimia. The delivery may be different but it all comes out in the end. (No pun intended.)
