Here is a cute idea for a wreath that has old fashioned charm. Use it for decorating an old-fashioned Christmas, or to decorate a nursery or child’s room. It would even make a nice gift for expecting parents!
The wreath will be formed out of assorted wooden alphabet blocks and small toys. You can use teddy bears, wooden trains, small nutcrackers or anything you might have around. Wooden Christmas ornaments that resemble toys, such as a rocking horse or a little doll are especially quaint in this wreath.
To make this wreath, you’ll need:
A flat wreath form (you can make one out of heavy cardboard. Cut a 12-inch diameter wreath with a 7-inch inner circle)
A 12-inch piece of 24-gauge wire (to hang the wreath)
3 yards of 5-inch wide ribbon in red or plaid
Assorted wooden alphabet blocks in large and small
10 to 12 small toys and ornaments
You’ll also need a hot glue gun.
Here is how to put it all together:
1. Punch two holes in the outside edge of your wreath form, about 6 inches apart, and then punch two more holes, about 1/2 inch away from either of the first holes.
2. Thread the wire in and out of the holes to make a hanger for the wreath. You can twist the wire ends into a hanger.
3. Wrap the wreath form with the ribbon, until it is covered all of the way around.
4. Using hot glue, glue the blocks around the wreath on top of the ribbon base. Then glue a second layer of blocks. Glue a third layer of blocks, taking care to make sure that they are level to how the wreath will hang. The third layer of blocks will provide seats for the toys and ornaments.
5. Attach the toys and ornaments to the wreath, making sure that they will be upright when the wreath hangs.
Enjoy!
