Have you ever wanted to use up some of your leftover scrapbooking products on a fun project? How about altering something. Altering simply means taking an object and changing it with your products to make it your own new creation.
I just finished altering this lunch pail and I am excited with the results. I would like to share a few tips that will help you alter a project easily.
Sketch out your ideas. Before you begin think about what the theme for your project will be and sketch out your general vision of how you want the project to look.
Measure twice, cut once. I know this is generally a term used in carpentry, but it also applies to paper when covering something that will need precise measurements. It will help you save time and avoid wasting paper because of cutting mistakes.
Keep a ruler handy. I have a clear acrylic ruler that was perfect for making all of the measurements.
Modge Podge. This is a fantastic adhesive that will definitely hold all of your paper in place on your project. Use thin layers of the glue. I apply mine with a foam paintbrush. First, apply a layer to the lunch pail (or other item that you are altering) and then place the precut paper on top of the glue. You can use a brayer to smooth the paper out and help remove air bubbles. You can then apply 2-3 coats of the glue on top of the paper to seal it. Allow the glue to dry completely between coats.
Glue dots. These are great to use to attach any thick embellishments.
Use ribbon. Ribbon can add such a nice finishing touch to your project here I used ribbon both to create the flower embellishment and on the handle of the album.
Don’t forget about the inside. Don’t forget about the inside of your project! If you don’t want to cover the inside sides of the lunch box, I suggest at least covering the underside of the lid. This will give your project a more finished look.
