Let’s face it, no one wants to be the house trick or treaters leave grumbling about only getting a new pencil or eraser set. We want to be the house that gives the treats and not the trick. However, with so many allergies, special diets, and attentiveness to health, alternatives to the common candy are in order. So what makes a good treat the kids will love without providing the sugar they do not need?
Alternative Treats for Halloweeners
Fruit: Grab a bowl and fill it with apples, oranges, bananas, kiwis, and pears. Allow e children to pick one. You may want to place each piece of fruit in a plastic bag or wrap in plastic wrap. If not, you can wear fun gloves and place the fruit in the trick or treat bags.
Fruit Snacks: Not the healthiest but fruit snacks are fun, lower in sugar than candy, and often contains vitamin C.
Coins: Instead of spending the money on candy go to the bank and get nickels or quarters to give out.
Caramel Apples: A little sweetness is not a bad thing especially paired with a crisp healthy apple. You can cut down on cost by making them yourself. It may turn into a fun family tradition.
Toys: This time of year you can find little party toys like plastic skeletons, spider rings, little plastic bats, or bouncy balls. For a few dollars you can get several in a pack. More ideas would be temporary tattoos, stickers, play dough, silly putty, or squirt guns. Get several different varieties of little toys and place all in a box of bag for the kids to pick what they like.
Glow items: The dollar store has varieties of glow sticks, glow necklaces and bracelets. Kids love them and it is a very useful item for nighttime trick or treaters.
