If the world didn’t known them from their appearance on NBC’s “American Gladiators” then this next move might just give them an extra 15 minutes of fame.
Or at least it will give their newborn twins some serious press.
When “Gladiator” contestant Kendra Sirignano was searching for a surrogate to carry her child she didn’t have to look very far. Her 52-year-old mom, who always said she would do anything for her daughter, volunteered for the job. And just a few days ago Crystal Sirignano delivered her own twin grandchildren, a boy and a girl.
According to reports, the siblings were delivered by Caesarean section; Domenic weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces, and his sister, Mia, weighed 5 pounds, 4 ounces.
Grandma and her two grandchildren are reportedly doing very well and resting at home in Arizona.
Thirty-year-old Kendra and her husband, 33-year-old Aaron Simpson made a name for themselves on the popular NBC show, but away from the public eye Kendra was struggling with numerous failed infertility treatments and surgeries.
Three years ago the couple adopted their 15-year-old daughter, Claire, but Kendra says she wanted to add to her family.
Enter her mom.
Crystal Sirignano, Kendra’s mom, is the owner of a fitness center and says she knew she was well enough to carry her daughter’s unborn babies. In agreeing to become a surrogate Crystal says she had to stop working out and lifting weights. But she says that wasn’t the hardest part. Doctors told Crystal that despite being a vegetarian she needed to start eating meat.
“I don’t regret one second, even the times when I didn’t feel good,” Crystal told local news reporters. “None of that was as bad as watching what my daughter went through.”
The happy mother and daughter team say they intend to raise the children together. Crystal moved in with her daughter (and her family) last October and is planning to stay there for a while.
