For a show that ended almost a month ago, you would think the “American Idol” news would start ending, but it hasn’t. In case you haven’t heard, Jeff Archuleta (who I am afraid may run his son’s career into the ground because he is such a stage dad) had planned a Salt Lake City concert for David to thank his fans for their support. However, as soon as the “American Idol” machine got wind of this, they cancelled it before one ticket even went on sale. Jeff told The Salt Lake Tribune “They’re just going to reschedule the event for a later time. When all the minds met, everyone concluded this wouldn’t work out for this particular weekend, and they just want to reschedule it for toward the middle or the end of the [“American Idol” summer] tour.”
Did Jeff actually think the “American Idol” producers were going to let David make money of his own this early on? Nope, when he signed on the dotted line, he sold his soul (at least temporarily) to the Idol devil. Actually, Jeff had only planned the ticket prices at $1, with 75 cents of that going to the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Make-a-Wish Foundation, so I guess I should cut Jeff a little slack. Salt Lake City fans can still see David when the “American Idol” tour makes its stop there on July 14th and 15th.
Soon enough, we can all hear David singing. David just signed a record deal with 19 Recordings/Jive Records – a label managed by “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller.
Meanwhile, Simon Fuller has other things to worry about. The American Federation of Musicians is suing the “American Idol” producers saying that they were underpaid due to the fact that the show’s live music was re-recorded for reruns. The federation filed the suit yesterday in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles claiming they should be paid royalties when the show is rebroadcast.
