American Idol News – May 26, 2007

Yes, I know the season finale was last Wednesday, but surely you didn’t think that would be the last we heard from contestants or even the judges, did you?

Runner-up Glad He Didn’t Win “American Idol”

Sometimes when people who come in second say, “Oh, I am glad I didn’t win,” I think it is just an excuse. But I really think “American Idol” runner-up Blake Lewis isn’t that upset by his loss. He has said it was just an honor to get as far as he did. He also admitted, in a nice way though, that the winning song in the songwriters’ contest, “This is My Now,” was just not his style. If you saw the show, you know he is NOT kidding. I think that song performance by both contestants may have made the different in who won that night. But, Blake has always seemed to be pretty ego free. Even before Ryan called the names out, I think Blake knew Jordin was going to win and handled it like well.

But, don’t think this is the last you’ve seen of Blake Lewis. He says he is focusing on what music to have on his first album and is even open to doing acting or voiceovers in films.

Simon Has Advice for Britney Spears

Well, he is a successful record producer, so why shouldn’t Simon Cowell give Britney a little advice on her career? After her lip-synching blunder in Orlando, it seems that Britney’s comeback is not quite on track. What is Simon’s advice? He thinks Britney should “just go home” to her family. He thinks she is still capable of saving her career if she just refocuses on herself. This, he says, can be done by simply getting some good home-cooked food and regaining a sense of reality.

Simon also offered his opinion on this season’s winner, Jordin Sparks. He said Jordin is the new Idol because she improved the most over the season. But, he still contends that his favorite, Melinda Doolittle, should have won as she had the best voice, worked the hardest, and was the most consistent.
