“American Idol” season five runner-up Katharine McPhee got her fairy tale wedding after all.
At one point the singer-actress wondered if she would ever find true love and now she can stop worrying.
The 23-year-old, who recently finished filming the comedy “I Know What Boys Like,” now has a new role as Mrs. Nick Cokas.
McPhee and the 42-year-old Cokas exchanged vows in a late afternoon ceremony at Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church, according to her rep.
The couple met in 2005 when they performed in a Los Angeles theater production of “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir.” (Cokas is now a producer.) According to McPhee, she and her new husband started out as friends but things turned romantic when she auditioned for “American Idol” later that year. A year later Cokas presented McPhee with a custom-designed round brilliant cut platinum and diamond engagement ring and asked her to marry him.
And McPhee did just that yesterday in front of more than 300 guests, including season five “Idol” contestants Kellie Pickler and Mandisa. McPhee reportedly donned a strapless ivory Manuel Mota gown and Neil Lane jewels for the event.
And while McPhee and Cokas were exchanging vows in Beverly Hills a somber star-studded event was taking place across town.
Celebrities including Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Sienna Miller, Ellen DeGeneres, and director Todd Haynes gathered on a movie production set in Los Angeles to remember Heath Ledger.
CAA—-the agency that represented Ledger–put the memorial together. It was held around noon and was closed to the public. The service came exactly one week after relatives and close friends paid tribute to the 28-year-old actor in a smaller service at an L.A. cemetery. And less than 24 hours after Ledger’s former fiancée Williams finally broke her silence regarding the death of her daughter’s father. The 27-year-old actress released an emotional public statement late Friday saying that her “heart is broken” and asked the press to allow her to “grieve privately.”
Along with Cruise and Holmes, who costarred with Williams on “Dawson’s Creek,” Shannyn Sossamon, who starred with Ledger in “A Knight’s Tale” also attended yesterday’s memorial.
