It is that time of year! No, I don’t mean Christmas, I mean time for the excitement of the upcoming “American Idol” season, which will start on January 19th. As might be expected, “American Idol” has been in the news lately, for good or for bad.
Paula Abdul has put her house up for sale after “American Idol” contestant Paula Goodspeed committed suicide in her car outside the house. Word is that Paula doesn’t feel safe in the house any longer. There was also talk of her blaming “American Idol” producers for not further protecting her from rabid fans. She told Barbara Walters that the producers knew Goodspeed had been stalking her, but let her audition for the show anyhow. Producers have said they didn’t realize how troubled Goodspeed was.
Either way, as someone once said, there is no such thing as bad publicity. The whole situation has once again put Idol in the news…right before the eighth season starts.
Maybe Abdul can keep herself busy with her jewelry. You’ve probably noticed her give out designs of her jewelry each year to contestants who leave as a keepsake of the show. She said she decided to give them something that they could “feel and touch to remind themselves that their talent got there here.” Now Abdul will be selling similar keepsakes on HSN. She had been selling her line on QVC, but now her Forever Your Girl line will now be available on HSN. The line, including handbags and other items, ranges from $29 to $200.
Speculation has been that Paula is unhappy with new judge Kara DioGuardi being added, but the producers have claimed Paula is happy and will be staying on. But, what about Simon Cowell?
Cowell told reporters on December 17th that he will make a decision as to whether he will appear on the ninth season of the show or not. He also backed up the producer’s comments about Goodspeed, saying that the producers had been unfairly portrayed as uncaring.
