If you are a fan of the Season One “American Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson, you may be disappointed to hear that she has cancelled her summer tour dates, reportedly due to poor ticket sales. This news comes just days after Clarkson announced that she was splitting from her manager, Jeff Kwatinetz of The Firm management group.
On her official web site, Kelly said, “In the craziness of the music business, performing is what I look forward to doing the most, so it really is disappointing for me to have to tell you that I won’t be coming out to tour this summer. The fact is that touring is just too much too soon. But I promise you that we’re going to get back out there as soon as is humanly possible to give you a show that will be even better.”
Kelly’s rep Paul Freudlich did admit that tickets sales had been slow and that while the tour was on hold, they would reevaluate the venues and size of the tour. Kelly is set to release her third album, “My December” on June 26th.
Kelly seemed to be the one of the breakouts from the show. She stumbled a bit with the horrid movie From Justin to Kelly, but rebounded with her first album, Thankful, which has sold over 2 million copies. Her next album, Breakaway, allowed her more creative control and was certified 5x platinum. She has won two Grammy awards – one for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and one for Best Pop Vocal Album (for Breakaway).
However, if you saw this year’s “American Idol” finale, you noticed RCA mogul Clive Davis didn’t make much mention of Kelly, which sparked rumors of a tiff. Kelly herself admitted there was a bit of tension between the two over her musical career. Her first single from “My December” titled “Never Again” peaked at #8 on the Billboard charts and it is now headed down the charts.
Hopefully Kelly can regroup, reorganize her tour and continue her musical success.
