We’ve all read the cute little stories in The Friend about the boy who lost his dime, said a prayer, and found it, right? I can’t help but get teary any time I read about a child’s faith and how quickly the Lord hears and answers their prayers. Sometimes I forget that I’m His child, too, and that He hears me just as well.
Last week was the Blue and Gold Banquet for the Cub Scouts in my ward. I had (somewhat foolishly, I admit) volunteered to have a fairly large hand with the food, and prepared to roll a hundred and eighty wonton. There was just one problem – I didn’t know where to find the cord to my fryer.
I’ve got a cute little deep fat fryer that just sits on the counter and is large enough to cook about ten wonton at a time. I use it twice or three times a year, and it’s a handy appliance to have. But it had been roughly six months since I last used it, and when I pulled it out, the cord wasn’t with it. It also wasn’t in the cord drawer, where, realistically, a cord should be. Given that it’s a cord drawer, and all.
I was getting ready to leave town for the weekend and didn’t have time to go digging through every nook and cranny in my kitchen. Feeling overwhelmed and overburdened, I said a little prayer and asked Heavenly Father to help me find the cord. A picture of the cupboard across the room came into my mind, and I walked over to it. Sure enough, there was the cord to the fryer.
I’m not a little boy, kneeling on the sidewalk with tears streaming down my cheeks, but I’m a child of God, as are you, and He will never forsake us or leave us alone. And if we’ve lost something, and really need to find it, He can and will help us with that, as well.
