An Apple Gift Idea

If you have an over abundant supply of apples this season, turn them into gifts. This time of year, fruits are very popular. Many organizations will sell fruits to raise money. I like to buy a couple of boxes, but sometimes we don’t get to eat them all before it goes bad. One bad apple can ruin the whole batch. So, I started giving apples as a gift. People can go to the store anytime to buy apples. I wanted to give a gift that I made from my kitchen that I know most people would enjoy. So I made applesauce. It is quick, easy and it doesn’t take alot of ingredients. After you are done canning you applesauce, Put a ribbon around the neck of the jar. Get an Index card and write the recipe for Fried apple pies, which I have listed below. Punch a hole in the corner of the recipe card and thread it onto your ribbon and tie it. You can put it in a small basket with some of the ingredients needed to make fried apple pies. Everyone will appreciate your gift.

For Applesauce you will need:

3 pounds of apples, cored and quartered

1 Cups Water

1/3 Cup Sugar

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Here is what you do:

Add apples into a large kettle. Add water and stir until apples are soft and tender. Add sugar and ground cinnamon. If needed, you may need to add more water as they cook. Remove from heat. Mash until you achieve the right consistency for your preference. I like mine chunky so I don’t mash them to much.

Fill pint jars with hot applesauce, leaving 1/2 inch headspace. Remove air bubbles by running a non metal utensil through the sauce. Wipe off the mouth of the jar and add the seal. Then add the screwband. Place them, carefully, in a boiling water canner for 20 minutes. This will make 4-5 pints.

Fried Apple Pies you will need:

1 jar of applesauce

1-2 cans of biscuits

What to do:
Prepare by coating the bottom of a skillet with grease. Place on low heat.
Roll out each biscuit on a floured work surface. Roll into a small circle. Add 1-2 tablespoons of applesauce toward the end of the flattened biscuits. Fold the other side over the side with the filling. Take a fork and press the two ends together. Finish all biscuits. Add the pies to the skillet. Brown on both sides. Remove from heat. Enjoy.
