An Easier Way to Clean the Bathroom

Maybe I am just behind and everyone knows this secret to cleaning the bathroom in record time. But just in case there is someone out there who spent years, like I did, taking far too much time and effort for a clean bathroom, I thought I would share an easy method that I just learned.

Previously, the way I would clean the bathroom is thus. First I would get a bathroom toilet bowl cleaner, squirt it into the bowl, and scrub the bowl. Then I would flush the toilet and move on the the rest of the bathroom. I would shake my can of foaming cleaner and apply it liberally to the toilet, sink, tiles and other areas.

After letting the cleaner have time to work, I would take my sponge and get to work. It would take a few passes on each surface to get all of the cleaner rinsed off. I would wipe, rinse my sponge in clean water, wipe again and repeat for each surface. I would dread cleaning this way.

Then, recently, I got to see how my sister-in-law, a professional cleaner who cleans offices and other businesses does it. She had her entire bathroom cleaned and disinfected in about five minutes, including mopping the floor.

First of all, she used one cleaner, not two or more. She poured a little bit of her all-purpose cleaner into the toilet bowl and did a quick swish around with the brush. Then she closed the drain of the sink, poured a little of the same cleaner into the bowl and added water. Dipping a cloth rag into the sink, she quickly wiped down the toilet and all of the surfaces in the bathroom that needed to be disinfected. The cleaner she used didn’t need to be rinsed, and since it disinfected, there was no reason to worry about dipping the rag into it to clean different surfaces.

She then dipped the mop into the sink and did a quick mop of the floor. All that was left was to let the cleaner/water out of the sink and give the sink bowl a quick rinse. Everything was left clean and disinfected.

When I tried this method at home, it was so fast that I had the time and the energy to include those areas I don’t often clean, such as the tops of the doors and the woodwork, so my bathroom is actually cleaner than it was before.
