Angelina Jolie Returns To The Big Screen

Angelina Jolie’s days as a stay-at-home mom are coming to an end. Jolie has just accepted roles in what could be two major blockbuster films.

The first movie is an adaptation of the memoir, A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl, written by Mariane Pearl, the widow of slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. In the film Jolie (cast as Mariane Pearl)will chronicle Pearl’s life after her husband was abducted and later killed by Islamic extremists in Pakistan in early 2002. Pearl, a French journalist, was pregnant when her husband was kidnapped and gave birth to their son Adam in May of that year.

”I am delighted that Angelina Jolie will be playing my role in the adaptation of my book,” Pearl said upon finding out that the famous actress had accepted the part. “I deeply admire her work and what she is committed to.”

The film will be a family project for Jolie and her boyfriend Brad Pitt whose production company, Plan B, will be producing the film. Early reports incorrectly claimed that Pitt’s ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, had already been cast as Mariane Pearl, but a representative for the company set the record straight, saying that while “Aniston was a partner in the company at the time she was never cast as Pearl. Moreover, Pitt has been developing the project with Mariane Pearl for two years.”

Just a few days ago Pitt told PEOPLE magazine that “the film will focus on the deep collaboration between people around the world in search of Daniel in 2002.” He went on to say, “We hope the film can increase understanding between people of all faiths and portray the story and the people involved as honestly as possible without anger or judgment.”

Besides the role of Pearl, Jolie will also be busy with another project–she will be lending her voice to the DreamWorks animated feature Kung Fu Panda, in the role of Tigress, a martial arts teacher. Both movies start shooting in the next few months. The roles mark the return of Jolie to the big screen since giving birth to her daughter with Pitt, Siloh Nouvel in May.
