Anne Heche has confirmed that she and Coley Laffoon, her hubby of five years, have split. Heche and Laffoon have one son, four-year-old Homer. There are rumors that Heche is seeing her “Men in Trees” costar James Tupper, who split from his wife last November, but there is no official word from the stars.
Heche was one-half a highly publicized romance with Ellen DeGeneres during the late 90s. Their relationship came light after DeGeneres announced her sexuality. I think at the time, Heche had just broken up with Steve Martin. For a while, her identity as Ellen’s partner remained a secret, but when the two finally came out as a couple, it was huge news. The two met at a 1997 Vanity Fair Oscar party about a month before Ellen came out. Heche had said she wasn’t gay when she met DeGeneres, but a relationship soon formed and they were everywhere. It seemed like you couldn’t turn on the television or open a magazine without seeing them together. Then, 3 1/2 years later, it ended almost as quickly as it started.
Heche and DeGeneres broke up in August 2000. Heche made the news again when there was that strange incident where she wondered up to a house in Fresno. It happened the day after the breakup with DeGeneres was announced. Heche abandoned her car and wearing only shorts and a bra walked up to a local home. If that isn’t odd enough, she made odd statements about a spaceship waiting to take her to heaven. The homeowners called the police and Heche was briefly hospitalized.
Right after that, Heche and Laffoon started dating. Laffoon had worked with both Heche and DeGeneres on a documentary being filmed during the summer of 2000. Heche and Laffoon announced their engagement in May 2001 and married on September 1, 2001. In 2001, she also released her memoirs, titled Call Me Crazy, in which she spoke of childhood problems that haunted her as an adult. On March 2, 2002, Homer Heche Laffoon was born.
Even though her marriage is ending, the good news is her show “Men in Trees” seems to be doing well in the ratings after being shown after the ABC hit “Grey’s Anatomy.”
