NFL star quarterback Tom Brady made headlines this week when it was made public that his son would not be carrying on his famous last name. Reports say the beefy athlete didn’t take the news well. But, he certainly isn’t the only celebrity father who is upset about his current custody situation.
Actor Charlie Sheen (perhaps, Hollywood’s most disgruntled father) is at it again. The “Two and a Half Men” star continues to publicly battle with his ex-wife Denise Richards over visitation rights with the couple’s daughters Sam, 3, and Lola, 2.
The latest dispute comes on the heels of a recent beach outing Sheen took with his children and new fiancée. The actor has been making the rounds on TV entertainment shows complaining about the current court-ordered custodial arrangement, which states that visits between him and his daughters must be supervised, and Richards has the authority to select which nannies accompany them on those visits.
A few days ago Sheen says he and his daughters, along with his fiancée, Brooke Mueller, went to a charity benefit… only the actor complains that the group had a fifth wheel—-an escort, who was reportedly not a nanny, but rather Richards’ assistant. Sheen referred to the “supervisor” as one of his ex-wife’s spies and then went off on a tirade to reporters about his current situation:
“Until I’m granted the ability to hire my own nanny, she is required to provide one and I was terribly insulted that she felt her ‘assistant’ was a suitable replacement. If it’s unfortunate that I’m speaking, it’s ‘unfortunate’ that an incredibly loving and responsible father and his terrifically capable fiancé [sic] are being subjected to these transparent and unnecessary sanctions, that have nothing to do with responsible co-parenting and everything to do with punishment and control. As long as I am forced to live under these conditions with my children, people are going to hear about it,” Sheen said.
Frankly, I wouldn’t shed tears for either or Richards (who hooked up with her best friend’s husband within weeks of her split from Sheen), but in this particular situation I find it amazing that Sheen is using the press to sway public opinion on him. What I feel is even more astonishing is the fact that the actor seems to forget that there is a reason a judge ordered him to have supervised visitations.
Hmm… let’s review why the 40-year-old is not able to spend time with his young daughters by himself. Could it be because he allegedly pushed, shoved, and threatened both Richards and her parents? Or, perhaps, it’s because Sheen reportedly viewed porn on the couple’s computer; that he allegedly pushed Richards down on the floor while she was holding their youngest daughter; that his prostitute habit is rampant; that he screamed at his ex-wife, wishing “breast cancer” on her, etc.
A judge seemed to view the allegations as being true and refused to allow Sheen to visit his daughters without a third party serving as a “supervisor.” In their particular case, Richards can choose the “supervisor”. Sheen didn’t seem to have a problem with the set up when he was single, but now that he is engaged to Mueller, all of a sudden he is outraged that the court order is in place.
Personally, I don’t feel sorry for the guy… do you?
