Another Homeschool Stereotype: Homeschoolers are Anti-Gay

According to an editorial at Lez Get Real, a lesbian blog with a large following, many homeschoolers do so in order to keep their children away from Gay people.

The writer uses E.Ray Moore’s Exodus Mandate as proof that most homeschoolers want to isolate their kids from evils of homosexuality. While there is truth in the fact that there are those who would gladly remove their kids from school to avoid early exposure to sexual subjects of all forms in school, it is just not true that most homeschoolers are ” right wing fanatics hell bent on destroying the lives of LGBT families”.

The true motivation for most homeschoolers is to provide an opportunity for chidren to first, be children, second, learn at a individual pace, and third, to pass on their values to their children.

Ah-ha! You may be thinking right now. She said pass on their values to their children. Those values must be anti-gay. I can honestly report that anti-gay “values” is never something that has ever crossed my mind in sharing my values with my children. Sure we are Christians, and may even qualify as evangelical, but the values we concentrate on in are homeschool are:

1. treat others as you want to be treated
2. Don’t be a follower
3. always do your best

I certainly hope that everyone, straight, gay, or otherwise teaches their children these same values.
