Apple and Starbucks

In a promotion to celebrate the deal made between Apple and Starbucks, the coffee chain will be giving away 50 million tunes to its customers in its more than 10,000 stores across the country.

Beginning on October 2nd, Starbucks will hand out “song of the day” cards that can be redeemed at Apple’s iTunes online store. Featured artists for these songs include Joni Mitchell, Paul McCartney, Dave Matthews, Band of Horses and Annie Lennox and Bob Dylan.

Starbucks will also begin selling cards that feature entire albums with bonus material, and again, these cards are redeemable at the iTunes store. A limited edition reloadable card will also be available. That card will offer extra freebies in the form of two downloads, when customers register those cards online.

There are big plans for Apple iTunes and Starbucks, free downloads aside. The partnership includes the allowance of immediate downloads of tunes at Starbucks. A customer with an Apple iPhone or an Apple iPod touch could download anything that is playing at the coffee store directly from the music store. In other words, say you are standing in line waiting for your triple mocha carmel whipped topping and chocolate shavings masterpiece when a groovy jazzy tune comes piping through the speakers. Last month, you might sway and bop and wonder what that great tune is and where you can get it. But now you can just click a bit and have it zoomed across the air and right into your own personal space. It doesn’t get cooler than this.

You can also use the signal for free to browse the store for other selections, and this should also work for laptops that have the iTunes software installed.

This service will start off in Seattle and New York, in 600 stores on October 2nd. Stores in San Francisco will come on board in November, There is no word as to when or if the download service will roll out to all Starbucks across the country.
