It’s been two weeks since Britney Spears suffered her now infamous meltdown in front of a hoard of paparazzi. Following the incident she entered a rehabilitation center in Malibu and has been showered with attention from Hollywood A-listers (including Brooke Shields) who have pledged their support for the troubled young mother. Now, another big name in Tinseltown is reaching out to Spears.
Yesterday, Timbaland, who has produced hits for Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado, made a public offer to Spears: “Let me help you reclaim your career.”
The 34-year-old rapper-producer’s full comments appear in an upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine. Basically, he tells the magazine reporter that he “feels her pain” and it bothered him to the point that he could no longer sit around and “do nothing.”
“I’m the type of person who tries to save the world. I just want to take her away, go overseas, and work (it) out,” he said.
But, wait it gets better. Timbaland also revealed to reporters that he invited Justin Timberlake, his “best friend” and Spears’ ex-boyfriend, to be part of that plan.
“I asked Justin, ‘How would you feel about me working with Britney?’ I had to ask him that,” Timbaland reveals in the magazine article. “I said, ‘Would you do it with me?'”
According to Timbaland, the 26-year-old “SexyBack” singer said he would, but added: “She’s just gotta be serious.”
Are you serious? Justin Timberlake coming to Britney’s rescue via Timbaland? Am I the only one (besides Cameron Diaz) who thinks this is wacky? Don’t get me wrong. I think both Timbaland and Timberland’s offers are very noble gestures… and generous, to say the least. However (call me a cynic), I can’t help think this smacks of self-promotion—especially after hearing the music producer say this to media representatives:
“I just want to hold her hand. I want her to be in my camp, to be around Justin. I need Justin to talk to her. Help her, please!”
Whoa!
Note to Britney: Concentrate on taking care of your kids before diving back into your music career.
