Are There REALLY Missed Opportunities?

When I was younger, I used to feel very pressed by time. I felt like any time spent doing “nothing” was definitely time wasted. I also couldn’t help but have this nagging feeling that I was missing opportunities right and left. For some reason, years spent as a single parent have helped me to develop a different outlook on time, opportunities, and patience…

Over the years, I have come to a very different belief system than the one I started out with and I really do think it is due to what I have been through as a single parent–divorce, solo head of household, three inspiring and challenging children. What I used to think of as missed opportunities have often turned out to be blessings in disguise. All it took was a slight shift in my thought processes and the ability to trust in the unfolding adventure–then I was able to see that what I thought were horrible disasters or grand disappointments often turned out to provide the fertile ground for something unsuspecting and amazing to sprout up.

I know this all sounds somewhat “woo woo” as we like to say on the West coast, but I believe that as long as we stay engaged; stay in the ball game so to speak and continue to make decisions and choices and live our lives completely–regardless of the mis-steps and mistakes we think we are making, that there are no missed opportunities–I just refuse to believe that life is that cruel. It may seem like one ship is passing us by because of responsibilities or other life choices we have had to make, but another one will be coming along. We get what we need and even our single parent status or other trials and tribulations have the “opportunity” to turn out to be blessings in disguise!
