Thank goodness my daughter wears uniforms to school. Whereas I don’t think of myself as a schlump, I also am very aware that my daughter and I don’t always see eye-to-eye when it comes to fashion.
Am I fashion challenged? Not in my world. Though, she may disagree.
What about you? Are you a fashion savvy parent?
If you have a hard time differentiating between plaids, tweeds and fringe, then you might consider getting schooled on hot fall fashions before hitting the mall with you child on a marathon back-to-school shopping adventure.
Here are some tips:
Plaid: Thanks to the phenomenal success of TV’s “Gossip Girl,” plaid schoolgirl mini skirts are all the rage right now. However, if you don’t think these super short skirts are appropriate for your daughter, steer her in the direction of plaid jackets or plaid tights instead. She’ll still be part of the trend, but you won’t have to worry about her being underdressed for school. You might also take a tip from Tina on the mega-popular hit TV series “Glee.” Punk-rock plaid and arm warmers are some of Tina’s wardrobe essentials.
Fringe: The 1970s-inspired fringe is back with a vengeance this fall. Even the youngest children can pull off the fringe look with no problem. A good choice for little ones is a classic fringed jacket that can be mixed and matched with a variety of pants and shirts. However, don’t go overboard with this fashion trend, as fringe may be passe by next season. You certainly don’t want to be stuck with a closet full of fringed shirts and jeans that your child won’t wear because they are no longer in style.
Floral: If you prefer your daughter wearing conservative fashion choices this trend will sit well with you. The flower motif on kids’ clothing is hot, hot, hot, right now. Floral dresses, shirts and skirts are available for girls of all ages. For a less frilly look, consider pairing a monochromatic outfit with a few subtle flower accessories, such as a faux flower pin or a printed scarf or head band.
