Are You a Homeschooler at Heart? Answers

In my last post I made up a test to help you determine if you are a homeschooler at heart. I asked a series of questions that hopefully you answered and are now back to see the results. You may want to go to the previous post before continuing.

As I am not an expert in administering surveys, the results were pretty straightforward. If you answered predominantly A’s you are least like a homeschooler. If you answered primarily with B, you have some tendencies that could lend to homeschooling, but you are more likely to work with the current school system to try to make it better. If you answered all C’s you are a homeschooler at heart because you will take matters into your own hands before relying on someone else to change things. Below are the original questions and my view toward each situation.

1. You receive a lunch calendar for public school and see that you do not agree with some of the meals being served this month. You Put the menu on the refrigerator and send a healthy lunch on those bad-food days.

A person who would take the lunch menu into his or own hands is more likely to homeschool. You see your child’s nutrition as your responsibility and will not defer to what the school feels your child should eat.

2. Your child is dealing with a bully in Sunday school. You ask to have a conference with the Sunday school teacher and the parents.

A homeschooler will not be shy about dealing with the problem head on and will also respect the parents of the other child as the authority in his life. They would probably meet with both the teacher and the parent together so as to not waste time and to make changes happen quickly. Homeschoolers are not very respectful of pecking order.

3. Your child gets grades you are not comfortable with, but they are still passing. You would have the child work with you or a tutor to help them learn the material they did not understand.

Understanding will be much more to a homeschooler than actual grades. While good grades can be nice, lack of understanding at one level will only get worse as material gets harder.

4. You want to replace an old dress with a similar style. You search all the stores and cannot find one like it. You: would Make the dress yourself or have it made.

Homeschoolers tend to want what they want and find a way to get it. Even for something as simple as a dress choice, they seldom settle for no as an answer and will find a way to get what is important to us even if it means doing it themselves.

5. The doctor tells you that you have a serious medical issue and need a drastic procedure. You would go online and look up everything you can find about the condition, including alternative solutions even if it means taking more time than the doctor feels you have to make a decision.

For homeschoolers understanding is much more valuable than advice. While we will defer to a professional eventually, we will get educated in the situation before doing so.

7.You have lunch with a friend and they suggest you get one check. Although their meal was more expensive, they want to split the check 50-50. You would
pay the whole bill an make a note from now on to ask for separate checks. Homeschoolers won’t waste a lot of time fighting over petty things and will often take steps that are principal related. Paying the entire bill will keep the peace in the situation, and next time, if there is a next time, they would request a separate check.
